Ingmar Bergman (1918-2007)
Michelangelo Antonioni (1912-2007)

Two giants of cinema, both gone within the same day. Unbelievable! I'm devastated :-(
These were two fearless and uncompromising artists who achieved the maximum of expression in their field, and I have endless admiration for both of them, for many years. Here are some interesting links worth checking out, if you want to find out more about Bergman and Antonioni:

  • Senses of Cinema essay about Bergman
  • A huge tribute to Bergman at Guardian website
  • Ingmar Bergman Face to Face website
  • Bergmanorama: The Magic Works of Ingmar Bergman
  • Woody Allen talks about Bergman (1)
  • Woody Allen talks about Bergman (2)
  • Roger Ebert's tribute to Bergman

  • Senses of Cinema essay about Antonioni
  • NY Times Antonioni article from August 1,2007.
  • A tribute to Antonioni from the Criterion Collection blog
  • Interesting reminiscence from a musician John Foxx, about his early '80s collaboration with Antonioni

  • And, here's a small tribute to one of the departed masters of cinema, no matter how inappropriate it may be. This motif from a Bergman movie has been parodied to death :) It's an old comic I originally made in 1995, and this is re-drawn and improved version from four years ago. Sorry for the text in Croatian... I don't have English version at the moment. Enjoy the pictures.

This is not my return to HammersonLand. You'll have to wait 'till September for the regular updates here. In the meantime, you can find me HERE.

The Greatest Movie You've Never Seen

    on Tuesday, July 17, 2007
It's out on DVD right now! And this guy's in it:

    IMDB link

Billy Wilder's "lost" masterpiece "Ace in the Hole", never before released in any home video format, and rarely seen for decades has finally appeared today, in the form of a fantastic two-DVD set from Criterion. I had a great luck to catch a rare TV broadcast several years ago, and since then it became one of my all-time favorite movies.

Do yourself a favor, and buy it here:

And if you haven't already seen it, check out my previous Kirk Douglas caricature HERE

These two people should NEVER mate, under ANY circumstance!!

Kali made me do this dirty and shameful picture. It's all her fault

You're not the girl next door or a girl from France...

Ugh, I don't like this drawing very much. There are some mistakes, and drawing looks squashed and odd in this scanned version (it's much better in original). I really wanted to make a killer caricature of PH, but I feel rather bad and exhausted today, so the result ain't what it could have been. Some of you may like it though, so here it is. Maybe I'll fix this drawing when I have more time... or maybe I'll just leave it alone and make some new stuff (as usually happens).

Hey, do you want to see the funniest Paris Hilton photo ever?

Unfortunately, it's fake :) Don't know who made it. Only those of you who recognize the album cover will get the joke.

    Dirty Robin

    on Monday, July 09, 2007
Here's third and the last post about Branko Stoka . I don't want to forever cement my reputation as a "dirty cartoonist" so I'd better stop after this one :-)

Well, this is a special bonus treat, the first page of Branko Stoka's earlier appearance, in the legendary and infamous Robin Hood story. It's probably the most popular thing I've done, and people often ask me to draw more comics like this. The whole thing is 8 pages long, and I won't put it on the blog. It's included in my first comics collection, so just buy the f@#%in' book, folks . This page is just a teaser (literally).
The name "Robin Blud" is a funny and impossible to translate word-play in Croatian. The verses are in Croatian too, and I need to transfer them in ye olde Shakespearean English.

(to be continued... but not on this blog)

The Continuing Adventures of Branko Stoka - part 2

    on Thursday, July 05, 2007
(Warning: again, this post is rated R - there's some nudity, bad language and violence. If you're offended by all that, scroll down to some "safer" posts, or leave this blog immediately!)

Here are few more panels from my Branko Stoka comic book currently in preparation. I posted about it YESTERDAY , and
. If everything goes according to plan, the book will be finished and available next year (probably around the time of MaFest comics festival in Croatia).

You'll find this thing only in the world's best comic-book stores. Buy it and laugh with our hero...

    ...or laugh at him!

Join Branko Stoka on his epic quest.

He's looking for the love in the strange places.

He's going to meet some dangerous women...

    ... and extremely dangerous men

He'll endure the most horrendous physical pain and sacrifice for the Higher Purpose

He's going to demonstrate the subtle art of seduction. Watch him carefuly and learn his advanced techniques.

His body may be broken, but his spirit is unstoppable.

Is he going to be lucky this time? You'll eventually find out, next year.

The Continuing Adventures of Branko Stoka

Warning: this post is rated R (Retarded)! If you're under 18, go somewhere else.

    Do you remember this guy?

That's Branko Stoka, alias Brandon Stokes, the hero of my new comic book in making. To find out more about this project, take a look HERE . You'll find two entire pages and some info in that older post. Yes, it's going to be little bit dirty, but also very funny and even educational comic book. Here are several "teaser" panels, and I will add more stuff tomorrow.
Sorry for the text in Croatian. Just enjoy the pictures.
