Report from MaFest

Last weekend, a comics festival MaFest took place in the city of Makarska (Croatia), for the second consecutive year. I was there during Saturday and Sunday, and as expected, it was lot of fun. The whole event was really well organized, and there's a friendly homely atmosphere that's often missing in many similar manifestations around the world. The success of MaFest proved that comics are not quite dead yet in Croatia, despite the contrary rumours we were constantly listening for the last 16 years.

Many of the leading comics artists and publishers from Croatia and neighbouring countries attended the festival, and there were some illustrious special guests: Alfredo Castelli and Lucio Filippucci (both of Martin Mystere fame), and also Matt Hollingsworth and Giulia Brusco (two of the best and most acclaimed colorists in the comics industry).

Originally, I wanted to post here a report with a bunch of photographs, but my shitty camera decided to die as soon as I reached Makarska. So, instead of the usual photos, here's something better (I hope) - the caricatures of several Croatian Comic artists who attended the festival. These are friends and colleagues, and I hope no one's going to hire a thug or professional killer because of my portraits :-)

Hvala, majstore! Možda mi se čini da je ispao nekako ukočen. Prva skica koju sam napravio s olovkom izgledala je puno življe.
